Information
From September 2026, all children in households receiving Universal Credit qualify for free school meals, regardless of household earnings. The Department for Education also abolished the "transitional protection" policy, meaning all families must apply and have their eligibility checked annually, even if they were previously covered. You will need to make a new application for each child but your information will be remembered to help you to complete multiple applications quickly. You will get an immediate response regarding eligibility after you've completed your application.
You may apply for eligibility on behalf of a parent/carer if you have permission to do so and their details.
